Apple today updated iMac to bring numerous high-performance enhancements to the world’s leading all-in-one desktop. iMac now features fourth-generation Intel Core processors, new graphics, and next-generation Wi-Fi. First Weekend iPhone Sales Top Nine Million, Sets New Record

Apple has sold a record-breaking nine million new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models, three days after their September 20 launch. In addition, more than 200 million iOS devices are now running the completely redesigned iOS 7, making it the fastest software upgrade in history. Both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are available in the U.S., Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. iPhone, iOS 7 Receiving Enthusiastic Reviews

The first iPhone and iOS 7 reviews are in from news organizations including The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and The New York Times:
Walter S. Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal recommends iPhone 5s “for anyone looking for a premium, advanced smartphone.” He calls the phone’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor “a potentially game-changing hardware feature” and iOS 7 “a radically new operating system.”
Ed Baig of USA Today looks at both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. On the iPhone 5s, he writes, “Taken in totality, the features new to the iPhone 5s make what I consider to be the best smartphone on the market even better.” He concludes, “I can strongly recommend either new iPhone but especially the 5s.”
David Pogue of The New York Times posts two stories. In his iOS review he writes, “The structure, layout and features represent some of Apple’s best work.” In his iPhone review, he calls iPhone 5c “a terrific phone,” noting, “The price is right. It will sell like hot cakes.” On iPhone 5s, he’s impressed with the improved camera and says the best part of Touch ID is “it actually works — every single time, in my tests. Fast Turns at Le Mans with Final Cut Pro X

For the second straight year, French post-production house Xtrem Productions covered the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance car race using Apple’s Final Cut Pro X video editing software on Thunderbolt-enabled Mac computers. Using footage from multiple trackside and handheld cameras, the company produced driver interviews, race highlights, and features for TV broadcast and theatrical release. “Things are easier to do in Final Cut Pro X, and they’re much faster, which means we can not only do more segments, but we can do more with them,” says Xtrem production manager Sacha Le Coroller. Apple Reports Third Quarter Results

Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2013 third quarter ended June 29, 2013. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $35.3 billion and quarterly net profit of $6.9 billion, or $7.47 per diluted share. Apple sold 31.2 million iPhones, which set a June quarter record. Apple has released Logic Pro X, the most advanced version of its professional recording studio for the Mac. App Store Marks 5 Years of App-ortunity

USA Today tech columnist Jefferson Graham marks the fifth anniversary of Apple’s App Store by tracing its history and highlighting some of its successes. He notes that the App Store — which started out with 500 apps and now has over 900,000 — led the mobile boom and ushered in the end of the PC era. Graham interviews Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom, who remembers his app’s launch in 2010: “I figured if we were lucky, we’d have 2,500 sign-ups on our first day. Instead, we got 25,000.” Since then, over 16 billion photos have been shared on Instagram.
